How the Dental Implant Process Works

Getting a dental implant is a process that takes place over several months.

Initial Consultation: Dr. Carroll evaluates your teeth, gums, and jawbone health to determine whether you are a good candidate for an implant. She discusses your options, answers your questions, and explains what’s involved.
Specialist Referral: Implant placement is a surgical procedure performed by an oral surgeon or periodontist. Dr. Carroll refers patients to a trusted specialist for this step and communicates with them throughout the process.
Implant Placement: The specialist places the titanium post into the jawbone under local anesthesia.
Healing Period: Osseointegration typically takes three to six months. Dr. Carroll monitors your progress, staying in contact with the specialist until confirming the implant is ready for restoration.
Implant Restoration: Dr. Carroll takes impressions or digital scans and places the final restoration—a crown, bridge, or denture—on top of the implant.
